Weather: Sunny and hot. Mid day tempratures reached 85 degrees.

Methodology: We cruised John's 19 foot Old Towne canoe down a 14 mile section of the James River. Not much paddling to be done. We usually let the current pull us along, occasionally paddling back up river to spot fish an eddy behind large boudlers in the river.

Light and ultra-light tackle with plastic worms for the majority of the day, intermixed with some buzz baits and flukes

King of the Boat: John's boat and John's home range. Let's give it to him.

Fish of the Day: None. We caught a good number of small fish, but only one or two close to a pound. John was able to land two fish on one lure, so we will give this one to him as well.
Smooth as glass Nice current

John’s Thoughts on the Day: We had worked together for a couple of years before fishing ever came up in conversation. When it did, Mike drove over and we made a couple of day trips down the river. The first trip you take with someone is always a little different. Who does what?? Who sits where?? Are they going to have to make more 'stops" than you do?? And heaven forbid, they turn out to be way to loud and chatty. There is no faster way to ruin a day on the water. But we were pretty much in synch from the beginning. It would have been nice to boat a few more fish, but I think the scenery more than made up for it. And it is not a bad thing to find someone as anxious to fish anywhere, anytime, as I am.

You will have to forgive us for the quality of the photos. When we took this trip, we had no idea we would ever be posting them.
